P260-M museum-auditorium to rise in Bacolod soon

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The P260 million Bacolod Museum-Auditorium will soon rise in the southern part of the city after the groundbreaking event in Barangay Alijis on Saturday 12 December.

Senator Miguel Zubiri and Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with other city officials led the groundbreaking ceremony of the said project to be located in the 8.8 hectare property donated by family Yanson to the city government.

After the groundbreaking event, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Leah Delfinado said the contractor will start this month the engineering and architectural design which is expected to be done in two to three months, while the actual construction is seen to start in February or March.

The nationally-funded Bacolod Museum-Auditorium has function rooms that can be used for other events such as weddings and the like.

The museum-auditorium can accommodate more than 500 people, and its design is nature-inspired and persons with disability (pwd)-friendly.

The project will be designed and built by the Manila-based LG+V Architect/Planners.
“With this project, we put Bacolod in the map of the cultural world in the Philippines,”said Zubiri.

The senator also thanked the family Yanson for their generosity to donate their property to the city government.

“I want to thank the Yanson family for a very thoughtful and heroic act. Without their land, this project will not be possible,” he said.

Aside from the museum-auditorium, Zubiri also committed to pursue in the Senate the construction of the Bacolod City hospital.

Zubiri said he will discuss with Senator Christopher Bong Go as the committee chair on Health to sponsor the bill for the construction of the Bacolod city hospital.
