BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The United Sugar Producers Federation won its first legal victory against government’s Sugar Order No. 3 after a court here issued an order effectively stopping importation of the commodity.
UNIFED directors announced today that the temporary restraining order issued by Sagay Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Reginald Fuentebella was handcarried to the office of the Sugar Regulatory Administration in Metro Manila.
Fuentebella said in his two-page order that SRA is restrained from implementing Sugar Order No. 3 Series of 2021-22 for a period of 20 days.
He also scheduled a hearing for a writ of preliminary injunction on 24 February 2022.
Sugar producers associations here had earlier decried the importation of sugar, blaming it for the recent drop in prices of the commodity that went as low as 10 percent in sugar mills here.
