BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has allowed a partial liquor ban effectively allowing the consumption of liquor in private residences, as well as the selling and buying of alcoholic beverages within certain hours.
The mayor, in Executive Order 37, allowed the selling of liquor, wine, and beer or any other alcoholic drinks from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Consumption of alcohol, according to the E.O., should be done within private residences only.
Drinking beyond one’s residence – along alleys, sidewalks, or any other public places and establishments, like restaurants, bars, and stores — are prohibited.
Establishments that violate provisions of the E.O. can have their permits and licenses suspended, or revoked, or their establishments closed.
“Unlawful consumption”, or those that consume alcohol outside of their homes, can be arrested, with appropriate charges filed against them.
