BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the finance team here to look for fund sources that will be used to buy COVID19 vaccines after the local council authorized Leonardia to contract with pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, one of the makers of a vaccine against the virulent disease.

City Administrator Em Ang told DNX Leonardia had, as of yesterday afternoon, “already instructed the finance team to look into all possible sources of funding that can be made available for the procurement of vaccines.”
Leonardia’s order came after the council here authorized him to contract with AstraZeneca for COVID vaccines manufactured by the pharmaceutical firm.
Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran, sought for comment by DNX, said there are” many” possible sources of funds, among these the general fund, the surplus of the Special Education Fund, and realignment of projects.
