Local, nat’l polls kick off; 766 vying for posts in Sugarlandia

The national and local elections officially start today 9 May 2022, with 766 candidates seeking various positions in the whole Negros Occidental.

Of the number, 11 candidates for mayor, 12 for vice mayor and four members of Provincial board are running unopposed.

Those unopposed for the mayoralty seats these are from the cities of Bago, Sagay, San Carlos, Sipalay and the towns of Cauayan, Don Salvador Benedicto, EB Magalona, Ilog, Manapla, Pontevedra and Pulupandan.

Those running unopposed for vice mayoralty are from the cities of Bago, Cadiz, Sagay, San Carlos and Sipalay and from the towns of Cauayan, DSB, Ilog, Manapla, Pontevedra, Pulupandan and Valladolid.

All 10 candidates for councilor from the City of San Carlos are also unopposed for today’s election.

The official list published by the Commission on Elections Negros Occidental also revealed that Bacolod City logs the most number of bets for congressional representatives with five while the number of candidates for councilor is at 38.

The cities of Kabankalan and Talisay and the towns of Hinigaran and Hinobaan meanwhile have the most number of candidates seeking for mayoralty seat with four each.

The towns of Hinigaran and Moises Padilla and the city of Kabankalan City have the most number of candidates for vice mayor at four each.
