Lighting strike update: One critical, 10 others stable

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – One of the 11 victims of the lightning strike in Bago City is now in critical condition.

The other 10 are still treated for physical injuries.

Initial police reports reveal that at around early afternoon yesterday, 10 persons — not 11 as verified reports eventually show — were struck by lightning at the sub-village of Concordia, village of Maao in Bago.

The 11 were Romy Dequiña, 42; Regie Subong, 21; Carlo Peralta, 30; Angelito Tamayo Jr, 38; Rodrigo Vallota, 36 ; Leonard Luardo, 20;

Danny Boy Alvarez, 29; Herson Subong, 32; Melody Jocson; Susana Rojo, 37; and JR Blanca, 31 years old.

Herson Subong is in critical condition while Melody Jocson is treated as an outpatient.

All are laborers and residents of Concordia.

Reports reveal that the victims were loading sugarcane by the road when heavy rains fell on them.

They had already sought for cover when they were struck by lightning.
