BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – State monitor Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded two ashing events from active volcano Kanlaon over the past several days but a town official said these have had minimal effects on townsfolk who continue with their usual lives.

“There is no panicking here and we go on with our daily lives,” Remuel Lajo, La Castellana town information officer told DNX in the morning today, 7 November 2024, after Capitol’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office released an advisory based on data from State monitor PHIVOLCS that showed 14 volcanic quakes occuring at the active volcano with two “ashing events.”

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office had been releasing text advisories for the past two days on possible ashfall from the volcano that remains under Alert Level 2.

No significant damage to crops or infrastructure was reported.
