In Full: Fourteen former rebels in NegOcc get livelihood aid from DSWD

BATO, Sagay City, Negros Occidental — 14 Former Rebels (FRs) from the municipality of Isabela and cities of Sagay and Escalante in Negros Occidental received livelihood settlement grants under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) held at the Provincial Capitol on December 19, 2022, Monday.

The awarding of financial assistance was graced by Negros Occidental Provincial Governor Hon. Eugenio Jose V. Lacson accompanied by 303rd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Inocencio I Pasaporte, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Head Merle Garcia, and E-CLIP Focal Person Narciso Abad lll.

Each former rebel received 20,000 pesos under the SLP of the DSWD including food packs from the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.

Lieutenant Colonel J-jay Javines, Commanding Officer of 79IB extended his gratitude to DSWD as one of the main and leading agencies in providing sustainable livelihood settlement grants for the former rebels to help them live a normal life.

He also called on the remaining rebels to return to the folds of the law so they could also avail of the socio-economic and livelihood assistance being offered by the government.

“The FRs are now in a better position to generate a sustainable source of livelihood that would aid them to be integrated back into the society and be productive citizens and agents of peace in their respective communities. We will work hand in hand with other government agencies to help facilitate the benefits intended for them. Together, let us continue to build progressive and reselient communities that are inhospitable to any threat group that undermine our efforts for nation building”, Lt.Col. Javines added.
