Horrors of War in Calatrava: Communist terrorist remnants not sparing children in desperate drive to survive

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The desperate drive of Communist terrorist remnants to take back areas where they used to have mass bases has led to what an Army officer described as “horrific tales” against children, one of whom nearly died in a clash while another was forced to watch his father being executed.

“They want to take back their mobility corridor to avoid being cornered and wiped out,” Dan Carlo Samoza told DNX as he slammed the “gasping” New People’s Army that he said admitted to killing another civilian recently in Calatrava town for “blood debts.”

The “Roselyn Jean Pilay (sic or ‘broken’ in Filipino) Command has shamelessly admitted to the killing of Danny Brazona” in Marcelo village in Calatrava town, the young lieutenant told DNX, referring to the statement released online by the Roselyn Jean Pelle Command that purportedly represents the defunct Northern Negros Front.

DNX does not publish statements from terror groups or unverified sources in complting with current anti terror laws and as part of its editorial policies.

Samoza said the estimated seven remnants that clashed with a rifle unit of the 79th early in the morning today, 22 October 2024, in Winaswasan, an upland village in Calatrava town, around two hours north from here, is the same group that could have killed farmer Danny Brazona, 57, in Marcelo village.

Samoza added the rebels need a “mobility corridor” through which they can move to escape the relentless pursuit operations of the 79th IB.

He pointed out two children have already been involved in the terrorism of the NPA in the killing of Brazona and the recent clash in Macasilao village.

DNX had earlier reported on the involvement of a teenaged girl, 13, in Agtatahor Uno village who was saved from death by Private First Class Hedges Matutina who stepped between the girl and an armed woman rebel who was threatening to harm the girl while pointing an assault rifle at her.

Matutina reportedly snatched the girl to safety.

The wife of Brazona, on the other hand, told officers of the 79th IB that one of her husband’s killers forcibly removed her hand from her son’s eyes as she tried to shield him from watching the brutal killing of Brazona.
