Grim Wednesday in Mabinay: 14 people die as truck rolls off cliff, pins some to death

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Police in the Oriental side of the province reported the death toll in a road tragedy in Mabinay town more than 200 kilometers south from here has risen to 14 and at least three wounded.

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office said the latest count was as of around 4pm today, veteran Dumaguete City-based journalist Judy Flores Partlow said.

Four of the fatalities have yet to be identified, though they are initially believed to be those of livestock buyers.

The dead who have already been named are all residents of La Libertad, a town 78 kilometers from Mabinay: Jun Jun Magos, Peding Desipolo, a certain certain Lindo, a certain Leo, a certain Jemboy, Junior Desipolo, a certain Marlon,

Ric Ric Desipolo, Dodoy Magos, and Allan Flores.

Those being treated for their wounds are Antonio BoganotanToreno, the widower also from La Libertad the Isuzu Fighter truck with plate number GKC455.

He, Almer Gargoles Igoogan, and Jovanni Flores were badly injured.

Partlow added the La Libertad natives were riding the truck when it flipped and rolled off a cliff in Tubod, a community in Bulwang village.
