BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The provincial office of the Department of Interior and Local Government will send a team of bikers tomorrow, 10 January, to the Tour of the Fireflies Negros leg that Himamaylan City will host for the second year.
Mayor Raymund Tongson told DNX it came as a surprise just this morning, only a day before the activity, that Roselyn Quintana, head of the provincial field office did not only approve of the Tour but had also expressed her support for the Ride.
In fact, she even sent a team of bikers and a representative, Maria Nove A. Mejica, a DILG cluster head to personally represent her, special consultant to the mayor Alejandro Deoma said.
`This is more than the blessing I had been expecting,’ Tongson said in an online interview.
The neophyte chief executive, who had been actively marketing his city through hosting affairs and events simultaneous with improving services for his constituents, said the Tour this year was more difficult to organize.
He gave the assurance, however, that organizers of the event have been strictly following quarantine restrictions set by the health department.
The city government had also put in place local measures to keep its residents and the bikers safe, Tongson added.
