Clavecillas opens 3D art exhibit

Bacolod 3D artist Rommel Clavecillas will open his 9th solo art exhibit today (Feb1) at the Coffee Ranger at Art District, Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

The show titled “Guya” is in celebration of Arts Month and will run from February 1 to 28.

Clavecillas is a self-made artist and a civil engineer by profession. He is a retired engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highway where he had served for 27 years.

In his artist statement, Clavecillas said “Guya”, the human visage in Hiligaynon, is his theme for his latest exhibition. The face and its visual exploration in art remains one of the ultimate references for human communication and psychological connection.

Inspired by its profound influence on portraiture, iconography and imagery, Clavecillas further amplifies his visual study by incorporating elements of Trompe L’oeil (trick of the eye) and three dimensional methodoology to further enhance the impact of his art. The result is a rich, compelling and vivid body of work that captures the powerful allure and pervasive mystery of enduring human aspect.

The artist uses different materials to create his artworls such as oil, acrylic, wood, fiberglass, plaster of paris, and cement which is the most difficult material to use since it requires 28 days curing period.

Clavecillas said creating an artwork would take him about a week to more than three months to finish, depending on the size and materials used.

His artworks on exhibit include portraits of actress Marilyn Monroe, US President John F. Kennedy, surrealist painter Salvador Dali, English comic actor Charlie Chaplin; Chinese contemporary artist, documentarian and activist Ai Weiwei, among others.

Customers or clients visiting Coffee Ranger being operated by Louie Ematong, will find Clavecillas’ artworks staring at them wherever they are situated.*CGS
