BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Consumer Group Konsyumer-Negros has joined the Power for People Coalition (P4P) in pursuing its advocacy campaigns in the energy sector.

Miggy Yulo, information officer of Konsyumer-Negros said the consumer group is also part of the team campaigning for Renewable Energy in Negros.

He added that the group is also opposing the passage of the Gamboa-Hermanos Franchise Bill, an act granting the Gamboa-Hermanos Farmworkers Multipurpose Cooperative a franchise to operate and maintain distribution systems for the conveyance of electric power to the end-users in the Negros Island.

According to Yulo, the said bill will be detrimental to the electric consumers of Negros.

He said the danger of monopolizing the distribution utilities focused on profit making will lead to price hikes and will weaken the power of the consumers to hold the distribution utilities accountable once privatized.
