BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The provincial government of Negros Occidental will allocate P33.5 million for the prevention and control of the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019 n-CoV).

Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson said the budget will be used for the isolation wards and medical supplies needed for the preparation and prevention of nCoV.

The governor said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, proposed the budget to be used for the construction of isolation wards in Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City as well as the district hospitals in Valladolid, Cadiz and Kabankalan and for the purchase of the personal protective equipment and disinfectants.

The budget will be taken from the fund of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Meanwhile, Tumimbang said that the provincial hospital in Silay City is ready to accommodate person under investigation (PUI) in case the lone isolation facility in the province, the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City will no longer have available rooms.

“In case Corazon Locsin will be full, we have no choice but to be ready. We should expect the worst case scenario. As of today, the Teresita Jalandoni must be prepared for any patients to undergo treatment,” said Tumimbang.
