Body of alleged NPA member recovered; probe shows man buried without family’s knowledge

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – A body of an alleged member of New People’s Army (NPA), which was apparently buried without the family’s knowledge in 2018, was recovered at Sitio Aguntilang 3, village of Riverside, Isabela, Negros Occidental on Monday 30 November 2020.

Investigation showed that the alleged NPA was buried last 2018 without the knowledge of his family members

Authorities identified the alleged slain NPA member as Randy Garsola of SDG (Sentro de Grabidad), Central Negros 1 (CN1) Front, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (KR-NCBS).

Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB), in a press release, said the father of the alleged slain NPA member named Winy Garsola approached them together with the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) to check on the rumored body of a man.

The troops of 62IB then responded and coordinated with the Municipal Police Station of Isabela for the recovery of the body and proper investigation and disposition of the body.

“The parents of the slain NPA member said that they remembered his last conversation with them saying that he will go to Cebu to find a job and after that they have not received any information on the whereabouts of their son,” the troops said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Colonel Michael Samson, Deputy Brigade Commander of 303rd Brigade called on the remaining NPA members to surrender peacefully to the authorities.

“I am calling the NPAs who are still hiding in the hinterlands to surrender peacefully while there is time,” said Samson.

The deputy brigade commander added he condoles with the family of Garsola.

The troops of 62IB facilitated the turnover of cadaver to the family in coordination with the local government unit of Isabela for Garsola’s decent burial.
