Bing: City should have own anti-ASF measure

BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia said the city must have its own ordinance in banning pork and pork products that enter here from outside Negros Occidental.

“The city should come up with its own ordinance but it should be harmonized with that of the province,” he said.

In November, the provincial government of Negros Occidental passed an ordinance prohibiting the entry of live pig, boar, pork, and pork products including food items with pork ingredient originating outside the province affected with African Swine Fever (ASF).

Leonardia said there must be coordination and cooperation between the city and the province for the proper implementation of the ordinance.

Councilor Wilson “Jun” Gamboa had earlier authored an ordinance banning the entry of pigs and pork products from other provinces affected by ASF.

Gamboa said his proposed policies were patterned after the anti-ASFordinance of the province.

“I throw it to the wisdom of the city council to finalize the construction of the ordinance,” the city mayor said.
