Army reports one rebel found dead in latest dead season clash

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Communist rebels suffered their latest battlefield loss in the midst of the dead season in the sugar industry here after soldiers and an undersized platoon of Red fighters clashed in the upland community of Bulasot in Himamaylan City, Camp Gerona reported.

Army Brigadier General Innocencio Pasaporte told DNX the body of a dead rebel , identified only by his nom de guerre, “Val,” was among those found by soldiers, left behind by the fleeing rebels along with guns and documents.

Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Brigade said he could be in his 20s.

The midmorning clash yesterday, 10 August 2022, came after villagers told soldiers that rebels of the New People’s Army’s Central Negros Front 1 were forcing them to give money or foodstuff.

An undersized rebel platoon of about 40 men clashed with a unit of the 94th Battalion in Bulasot, an upland community in the village of Buenavista, at least 80 kilometers south of here in Himamaylan City.

Pasaporte praised the soldiers and 94th Battalion commander, Lt. Colonel Van Donald Almonte, battalion commander, and the villagers, a news release from Camp Gerona said.

It added: “It only shows that the locals are already fed up with the NPA terrorist lies, deceptions, and “extortion activities” in their community who have no other agenda but only to terrorize and extort them,” it quoted Pasaporte as saying.
