A chase and a win: U League 2019

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Yellow and white Marketers’ Union (MU) rose to the occasion bagging their first U-league gold medals, despite the late domination over Philippine Instrumentation and Control Society (PICS) in the U-League 2019 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, yesterday.

Finals MVP Jester Seth Sangco said that it is fulfilling to be part of the first win of the club. For him, the MVP title is just an icing to the victory, what is important is they won together.

PICS started the ball game with a bucket from Serrano.

A good pass and a “go” from Go declared the arrival of the yellow and white.

Despite early misses and turnovers, Maceda launched a basket from rainbow country to secure their lead late in the first quarter of the ball game 15 – 10, PICS on top.

A 14-point deficit wrapped the first quarter – blues on top 26 – 12.

Quarter two started with a miss from PICS followed by two consecutive bucket successes from Finals MVP, Sangco, 26 – 16.

Sangco was unstoppable from then on with two more baskets in the seven-minute mark of the second quarter of the game, 26 – 20.

Lead escalated back to ten as Ramos secured two more rings: 35 – 25, PICS on top.

Last minute of the second quarter, ball is back to MU but a defensive play by PICS failed the yellow and white from taking over; 39 – 33, PICS still on top, end of second quarter.

Third quarter started with a confident block from Marcelino to Benitez followed by a good search but a failed finish by Tabat.

Wee puts up a secured two for MU, cutting PICS lead to three; 42 – 39.

Soaring and scoring MVP, Sangco puts up another successful two to cut the lead to one; 42 – 41.

PICS sent a “no go” signal to MU as Serrano grabs and scores with a foul against the yellows; 46 – 41.

The yellow and white tried to take over but another block was launched by Marcelino ending the game with a five point deficit against them; 59 – 54.

PICS continue to soar with a three from Pelagio to start the last quarter.

Last seven minutes of the game, the yellow and white trims the lead to three with a three from Cacho, 62 – 59.

A foul against PICS paved the way for MU to clinch another one possession game.

The yellow and white took advantage and dominated as Go steals and scores in the start of the six-minute mark followed by another sure two from Tagle; 62 – 65, MU rises.

The crowd went wild as the first deadlock of the game arrived late in the ball game.

No stopping – both teams eager to dominate, thus, exactly two minutes left in the clock, another deadlock arrived, 72 – 72.

Two baskets followed from MU, extending their lead to four; 72 – 76.

Parcia gave back a two for PICS but MU eager enough to extend their lead; 74 – 78.

PICS tried to chase but an out of bounce stopped the team from taking over.

The game concluded with a 74 – 78 score – a “V” for Marketers’ Union.
