BACOLOD CITY – Activist leader Diego Malacad was rushed to the hospital after suffering a stroke in the morning of October 31, the day the military and police simultaneously served search warrants on four offices of alleged Communist fronts here.
Diego Malacad, chairman of the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC), an allied organization of the activist umbrella Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)-Negros was rushed by UNDOC officials after he showed signs of a stroke.
Malacad’s wife, Judy, told DNX she was informed around noontime that Diego was rushed to the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
Last night, Judy said Diego was already able to move his arms when asked by the doctor.
“This is an improvement as he had half-body paralysis,” Judy said.
This reporter spoke briefly with Diego who was transferred to another hospital but still placed in intensive care.
“I think it was the stress,” Diego said as he told DNX that he was having a meeting with officials of transport groups when he felt a sudden weakness on one side of his body.
