BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — “For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health… till death do us part.”
Vows are always considered the crucial part of any wedding, where the couple tying the proverbial knot promise love, undying love for each other despite challenges.
Thus the mass wedding, initiated by the 94th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Van Donald Almonte, under the 303rd Infantry Brigade and its commander Col. Orlando Edralin, was even made more meaningful because among those that were united were former rebels, joined by two enlisted personnel and their partners.
The wedding was held at the 94th IB headquarters in Tambo, Ayungon, Negros Oriental yesterday 28 March 2023.
The five couples, the former rebels, were members of Central Negros 2, Komiteng Rehiyon- Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor, a press release from the Army said.
The seven couples tied the knot in a ceremony officiated by Pastor Sario Indico with the presence of Colonel Malig Jr; Mayor Dennis Amancio of Ayungon, Negros Oriental and Police Major Fortunato Villafuerte, Chief of Police, Ayungon PNP who served as principal sponsors of the newlyweds.
Families, visitors, and friends were invited to witness the holy matrimony of the couples. Other visitors were Ayungon Councilor Shamerra Worrel; Ayungon Former Councilor Elsid Salimbagat; Tambo barangay captain Ely Salimbagat, Linao barangay captain Jerry Alunan together with other principal sponsors.
In his message, 303rd IB Deputy Brigade Commander Col. Eufracio Joel Malig congratulated the newlyweds.
He also lauded the efforts of LGU, stakeholders and the troops of 94IB in Central Negros led by Almonte in “upholding the traditions of love, inspiring unity and cooperation through a special wedding ceremony and for the untiring support displayed by everyone”.
“Let’s work together with unity in promoting our vision and mission for peace and development here in Central Negros and the entire Negros Island. Your Army in Negros will always be proud to pursue the Philippine Army’s vision towards professionalism and to serve the people whom we are mandated to protect. We welcome and encourage all the remaining rebels to abandon the armed struggle and accept the government’s offer through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). We, your Philippine Army, is always committed in serving the people and securing the land,” Malig added.
