28 OFWs’s transfer to a tourist inn tomorrow; swab specimens to be sent to biolab for further tests

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has allowed the transfer of the 28 OFWs now quarantined at the Lopez Jaena Elementary School to a tourist inn by tomorrow 2 May, after consulting with Councilor Renecito Novero, head of the Quarantine Centers Action Team (QCAT) and Councilor Israel Salanga, head of the Action Team for Returning OFWs (ATRO), a press release from the Bacolod City PIO said.

The City Tourism Office assisted the OWWA-Bacolod in locating an establishment willing to house these OFWs for the remaining period of their mandatory quarantine.

Based on the previous urgent appeals of Leonardia and City IATF Chair, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac committed that the OWWA will foot the bill for this accommodation.

Leonardia had already thanked Cacdac for coming to the aid of these OFWs who already arrived in Bacolod, the press release added.

Cacdac, in turn, texted the mayor, “Rest assured Sir we shall help the arrivals in Bacolod po and the Bacolodnons here po in Metro Manila.”

Meantime, the City Health Office also finished taking swab specimens this morning from all the 28 OFWs, which will be sent to the Iloilo biolab tomorrow for testing.

Councilor Salanga and Councilor Novero are also presently coordinating with the OWWA, MARINA, Philippine Ports Authority, and the Philippine Coast Guard for subsequent arrivals of other OFWs from Manila.*/City PIO
