BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – An official here has confirmed that a City Hall legislative staff who got his first dose of the Sinovac vaccine more than a week ago tested positive for COVID19 recently.

Councilor Cindy Rojas told DNX Robert Jan Torres, one of her staff who attends to the needs of returning residents, tested positive for COVID after being swabbed by the City Health Office.

She said Torres was part of the team that fetches returning Negrenses at the airport, along with personnel of the provincial government who work with provincial disaster czar Zaephard Caelian.

Rojas said, he showed symptoms as early as Thursday during a phone conversation.

“His voice sounded hoarse and he complained of a cough,” she added.

The task force on returning overseas workers added it cannot be assumed Torres got infected because of the vaccine.

“There are a lot of possibilities,” she said, among them the possibility that Torres was already infected before he got vaccinated.

Besides, it was his first shot and was still up for the booster round of Sinovac.

Rojas hopes that the vaccine would make Torres’ symptoms less serious or it could hasten his recovery time.
