Ten physicians of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines has asked Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who heads Bacolod’s InterAgency Task Force, to reconsider placing the city under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine for two weeks.

The physicians, in a letter to the vice-mayor, said there is currently under a sustained community transmission in the city as shown in the rising number of local cases.

Reports from the Region 6 health department show that nine out of 10 active cases are local transmissions.

The physicians said there is a need to control or limit the movement of people for two weeks.

Two weeks of time-out, they said, would mean two weeks of saving lives.

The physicians also recommended public education, strict home or facility quarantine for suspects pending the results of the swab, strict workplace requirements and if possible temporary closure of buildings where there are clustering of cases.

Work from home setups should also be encouraged, as well as maintenance of skeleton crews in operations.
