Tiempo muerto ushers in losses for Negros Reds as Army kills two, nabs one

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The dead season in the sugar industry here ushered in fresh losses for Communist rebels here after two alleged guerrillas were slain and another one captured in separate incidents, all on the first day of April 2022.

In Himamaylan City, about 80 kilometers south here, the Army reported the death of two front officers of the New People’s Army after a clash between troopers of the 94th Infantry Battalion and at least 20 armed guerrillas in the upland community of Kulihaw, Buenavista village.

The 303rd Infantry Brigade, in a dispatch today, identified the two suspected slain rebels as Elbert Nicolas Quillano alias Carding, platoon leader of the main guerrilla unit under the Central Negros Front 2; and Jessa Luiso Quillano alias Clea, the front’s medical officer.

The release added locals in Buenavista village tipped off the 94th Infantry Battalion about the presence of the rebels in the area.

Aside from the two dead bodies, the rebels also left behind guns and ammunition and a laptop computer.

As the fighting raged in the south, over at the Oriental Negros city of Canlaon, a joint Army and police operation was conducted to arrest Nelfa Sandot Delima aka “Nena” who was identified as the leader and medical officer of the Communist Party’s branch that covers the rebels activities over several villages in Canlaon and Moises Padilla town in the Occidental side.

Delima, 50, had an arrest warrant issued by Guihulngan City Regional Trial Court Judge Eric Anthony Dumiplo.

Soldiers and policemen also seized a revolver, ammunition and explosives, and medicines from Delima.
