BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Five teams will be seeing action here until the 19th this month as the hostilities for the National Tchoukball Championship Bacolod officially opened at the Bacolod City College.
John Jamelo, president of Tchoukball Association of the Philippines and Councilors Jason Villarosa and Kalaw Puentevella led the opening at the Bacolod City College Activity Center.
Organizers said the teams competing this year are those formed by tge Johnny Roasters Bacolod, Kalo Kalo Bacolod, Ilahas Bacolod, Butanding Cebu, and Señoritas Bacolod.
The last National Tchoukball Championship was held in 2019 at STI West Negros University, before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted sporting events.
Tchoukball, a non-contact team sport, was introduced in the 1960s by Swiss biologist Doctor Herman Brandt.
A match, usually played on an indoor court where teams score by bouncing a ball against an elastic rebounder, aiming to limit injuries and prevent physical contact, with teams of 12 playing 7 at a time.
