The Sine Negrense in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Province of Negros Occidental, the Negros Cultural Foundation and the Negros Museum unveils the competing films under the Open and Intercollegiate Category of the Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival 2022.
The 9 finalists for the open category are: A Cookie Movie directed by Dale Gugudan; Amo Guid Na Da Sila directed by Julius De La Peña; Ang Babayi sa Suba directed by Jonathan Jurilla; Apple Soda directed by EMMARY; Balangaw directed by Junmarl Alconga; Golden Bells directed by Kurt Soberano; Itib-ong directed by Ferdinand Macalisang; On A Knotted Bough directed by Lorenz Carmona; and Ritmo directed by Zack Verzosa.
The 11 finalists for the intercollegiate category are: Ading from University of St. La Salle, Baganihan from Colegio San Agustin Bacolod, Balas, Balud Kag Mga Bituon from Sagay National High School, Daga from Sagay National High School, Handuraw from Negros Occidental High School, One-Eyed Pig from University of St. La Salle, Perya De Juan from University of St. La Salle, Pugong from University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos, Sa Halalban from University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos, Sa Kalaut Sang Katobtoban from Colegio San Agustin Bacolod, and Testigo from Colegio San Agustin Bacolod.
The selection committee, composed of Tanya Lopez, Banjo Hinolan, and Gloven Gerogalin, confirmed the finalists after intense deliberation of 26 submitted entries.
The 20 short film finalists will be screened during the 2022 Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival, happening on November 21-27, 2022 at Cinematheque Centre Negros.
The best short feature film for both categories will be awarded a cash prize and a trophy during the Sine Negrense Awards Night on November 27, 2022.
Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival continues to provide a viable outlet of expression and aims to bring out a new generation of filmmakers and enthusiasts, as well as cultivate an informed public on the importance of Cinema and Storytelling in the context of National Identity, Culture and Heritage.
