Lost and Found: Xi Jinping amidst the nCoV crisis

Chinese Premier Xi Jinping has now been found after international and US-based media reported that he has dropped out of sight.

The Chinese leader was reported to have made his visit to infected patients and meet doctors at Beijing Ditan hospital.

“Let’s Not Shake Hands’: Xi Jinping Tours Beijing Amid Coronavirus Crisis,” the New York Times reported.

He had his temperature checked and he observed how doctors treat the patients.

As the 2019-nCoV death count continues to rise everyday, the Chinese President was nowhere to be seen for days – a said unusual occurrence for he has always been, since 2012, usually in front page, dominating various media coverages.

With an authoritarian government, China, in times of crisis like this, needs a leader to make command for it to be resolved, some news agencies reported.

However, the Chinese leader, appointed Li Keqiang, the Premier of the State Council, to do most of the work, including visiting Wuhan, the center of the outbreak.

The leader was nowhere to be found after that.

According to Willy Lam, professor of Chinese University of Hong Kong in an interview in The Guardian, such action can lessen the blame on him and instead will be given to Li Keqiang when the crisis gets worst, and if situations improve ‘he will take credit’.

Xi Jinping is considered to be the people’s leader and also the most powerful leader of China next to Mao Zedong.
