BACOLOD CITY – Local anti-drug czar Jovie Espenido has finished briefing councilors on the drug situation here in an executive session after his “grace period” for leaders of organized crime groups to talk to him “man-to-man” ended 31 January.

“It’s a serious concern,” Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran told DNX when asked to describe his impressions on the briefing given by Espenido that was, in the nature of executive sessions, closed to reporters.

Familiaran said the Espenido brief made him realize that the drug problem has become more serious now compared to what it was at least 10 years ago.

He cited as an example the fact that during his term as a councilor, only 60 percent or six out of 10 detainees are drug offenders.

Now, it has grown to 70 percent or seven out of 10, he pointed out.
