BACOLOD CITY – There seems to be no room for Santa’s sleigh here as cars congest for the Yuletide season although his reindeers would be safe as traffic is expected to be more sluggish towards the year end.
“Most of the island’s cars are here,” traffic chief, Police Lt. Col. Luisito Acebuche, told DNX.
Citing data from the Land Transportation Office’s regional centers 6 and 7, Acebuche said the surge in vehicle volume has made sluggish traffic “expected.”
Of the more than 188,000 vehicles all over the island, 107,000 are here for the Yuletide season.
This is due to several factors, Acebuche said, including the holding of mall sales, people taking Christmas breaks here, and the increase in colorum vehicles.
The surge in vehicles usually results to sluggish traffic in most parts of the city that is expected to peak on 28 December until the year’s end.
NO REROUTING
Acebuche also said they are not implementing any traffic rerouting plan as it would only mess up traffic some more.
Those who are not from here get confused, and this only worsens traffic congestion, he said.
He expects traffic to ease by January.
“Through the years I have observed that traffic gets bad from July to December but it gets better when transients go back to their places and when the Christmas rush is done,” he added.
