BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Raymundo Villaranda, 91, wanted to check his charcoal pit early this week.
It was on the other side of the river.
He never made it across.
Near noon yesterday, 11 August 2022, Raymundo was found floating face down in the Sipalay River, his body had started to rot.
Police said he could have died of drowning based on what his daughter, Angie Elongos, told them.
The police records said Angie told them her father went out around 4am to check on his charcoal pit in the sub village of Kapillahan, a community belonging to the upland village of Cabadiangan.
The daughter of the deceased, Angie Elongos, told probes his father left his house around 4am of 9 August.
Up north, in Silay City Michael Gaas, 32, was arrested by police for allegedly suspected shabu worth P47,000 during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Estaca, Brgy. Lantad.
Police seized an estimated seven grams of suspected meth from Gaas who is now detained by the Silay police.
Near Silay, in EB Magalona town, a trip of alleged illegal gamblers were reportedly caught playing the card
Nelita Sebalos, 52, Nemia Segunia, 55, and Noreto Trocio, 54, were reportedly caught in the act of playing the illegal card game by EB Magalona police.
Police seized a set of playing cards and P152 worth of bet money.
The three are currently detained at the town police station.
Police further north, in Victorias City, nabbed Reneboy Loyola, 18, and Herman Regalada, 21, for allegedly stealing a phone worth P8,000 from Mary Ann Gustilo.
