Labor group call on DOLE to inspect blue guard agencies

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The spokesman of a workers alliance in Western Visayas has called on the labor regional director to conduct a routine inspection of all private security agencies a day after a guard in the country’s capital held hostage several people and shot his supervisor, a dramatic standoff reportedly triggered by unfair work practices.

“Alchie Paray has just become an accidental hero for his fellow security guards, ” Ronald Ian Evidente told DNX as he pointed out that Paray ‘s gripes sounded legitimate, especially on the alleged violations committed by his supervisors.

Evidente, a paralegal who assists, among many others, security guards who file complaints before the labor department, is spokesperson of the Western Visayas Alliance of General Employees for Solidarity.

He pointed out that DOLE Region 6 director Cyril Ticao must do a routine inspection amid complaints and possible violations by some agencies.

The labor spokesman added that based on the cases he has handled, many agencies operate without complying to the provisions of Labor Department Order 174, fail to comply with labor standards like minimum wages, among others.
