Young Inventors and Innovators Society (YIIS) of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) Alijis Campus won 1st runner-up in IP CIRCLE League: The Story, a film-making competition hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.
IP CIRCLE League: The Story, with the theme “IP And the youth: Propelling the youth to further innovation amidst global challenges,” aimed to showcase the youth’s pivotal role in economic development through their intellectual property assets, tackle IP issues in relation to the youth, and inspire solutions and strategies for IP in the country.
YIIS President Irish Jhon Despues and members Victor Alabi, Jemar Apohen, and Merjohn Judar, with their adviser Marvin A. Margarito, MSIE, produced their winning short film “Protect your IP” to remind viewers that intellectual property is an asset one should secure because others may take advantage of it. According to the team, this was an unexpected win. Nonetheless, the members saw it as an opportunity to inspire others to think about protecting their intellectual property. “We would like to continue the work that was started through this competition and use this as an opportunity to spread the word about the importance of protecting your intellectual property. We in the organization aim to advocate against piracy through the knowledge, skill, and interest of our team in intellectual property protection for the betterment of society,” Despues said.
Winners were announced on December 20, with University of Makati as Champion and Philippine Science High School Cagayan Valley Campus as 2nd runner-up.
