BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The National Police Regional Internal Affairs Service will hold a probe parallel to that of a local station here on the death of Patrolman Val Liansing who is initially believed to have been killed by his service pistol that accidentally went off during cleaning.

Elmer Bonilla told DNX the probe of the RIAS will be independent from that of Station 7, which he heads and has jurisdiction over the case that happened last week.

Bonilla, a police captain, said they are still waiting for the results of the ballistic and paraffin tests from the Crime Laboratory for them to know if there was foul play in his death.

When asked about the possibility of a suicide, Bonilla said the family of the victim told them their son was preparing for his Basic Internal Security Operations Course (BSOC) training to start after he was temporarily deployed here for the Masskara Festival.

He added Liansing might have been cleaning his service gun, a 45 caliber Armscor, in preparation for the training.

The initial report on Liansing’s death does not indicate if his pistol was field stripped or disassembled while he was cleaning it.
