BACOLOD CITY – Capitol has raised the alert status over Negros Occidental province from blue to red as Typhoon Tisoy continues to move on its third day today across Philippine territory.

Provincial disaster chief Zeaphard Caelian said in his report to the Office of Civil Defense regional office that the upgrading came as weather bureau PAGASA hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over northern portions of Negros Occidental and other towns and cities.

Code Red signifies the highest level of preparedness by a government unit for a storm or any natural calamity.

Caelian also reported the social welfare, engineering and health offices have prepared needed items and equipment for any event that may occur.

The PHO, for example, has prepared items like medical kits and blood while the PSWD has prepared food items for 1,000 families, and the engineering office has vehicles and equipment ready for deployment.

Search and rescue teams of the 31 police stations in the province are also on standby and ready for deployment, he said.
