Bacolod City – Negros Power has ramped up efforts to ensure an uninterrupted and stable power supply for the upcoming national and local elections by undertaking massive rehabilitation and preventive maintenance activities in its distribution network over the weekend of April 26–27, 2025.
The intensive operations kicked off at the Murcia Substation early Saturday, with work running from 6:00 AM to 5:45 PM. Over 800 new insulators were installed, and critical repairs were made on several aging power lines to fortify the grid’s resilience. Maintenance activities continued on Sunday at the Reclamation Substation from 4:00 AM to 3:30 PM, where another 400 insulators were mounted, and multiple pieces of outdated and defective equipment were replaced to bolster substation performance.
“This intensive maintenance work is crucial in preventing unexpected power interruptions, especially during significant events like the elections,” said Engr. Oscar Duca, Area Office Assistant Manager of Negros Power. “We are committed to delivering seamless service and taking proactive steps to reinforce our network’s reliability. Our goal is to ensure that when voters head to the polls on May 12, they can do so with full confidence that power disruptions will not interfere with the election process.”
This maintenance activity forms part of Negros Power’s commitment under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on April 7, 2025. Under this agreement, Negros Power pledged to conduct early preventive maintenance and rehabilitation works to guarantee the reliability of the power supply before, during, and immediately after the elections.
Additionally, Negros Power announced that beginning April 28, 2025 — two weeks before election day — there will be no more scheduled power interruptions across its service areas to safeguard the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the electoral process.
Residents have already expressed their appreciation for the company’s proactive efforts. John Rey Canillada, a resident of Barangay 35, commended the initiative: “It’s reassuring to see Negros Power following through on their promises. Instead of worrying about brownouts, it’s good to see them working hard and investing in better service for all of us.”
This weekend’s activities form part of Negros Power’s broader five-year modernization and rehabilitation program, a major undertaking aimed at upgrading infrastructure, integrating more innovative grid technologies, and delivering a more stable, efficient, and future-ready electricity service across the region.
