BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The incident in Kabankalan City initially reported as an abduction turned out to be a case of misunderstanding, police in the southern Negros city said.

The probe of the Kabankalan Police Office showed the witnesses who reported the incident to police on 27 July 2022 assumed the three supposed abductees were being forced into a car by the four supposed abductors.

Police said Joemarie Flores, one of the assumed victims, came to the station and reported that they knew the men who made them ride the car.

Flores reportedly admitted that these people, whose identities were not disclosed, were their companions in playing a cards game in Candoni town.

He said they cheated in the game, resulting in them collectively earning P80,000.

Police added the men who dragged Flores and his two friends into the car only persuaded them to return the money.

They were then dropped off in Ilog town a few hours later.

Police clarified that this was neither a case of abduction nor robbery.
