Utan Deal: Bacolod farmers to partner with City Hall for sustainable agriculture

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Farmers in the rural villages of Alangilan and Granada here have reportedly committed to support the sustainable agriculture program of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, the Information Office reported.

The report, first posted on the Public Information Office Facebook page, said a discussion was held yesterday between City Hall officials and vegetable producers who reportedly committed to the Benitez plan and asked for support through the City Agriculture Office like provision of seeds and farm equipment.

Councilor Thaddy Sayson, who chairs the city council’s agriculture, said farmers are one of the top priorities of Benirez since he took office.

Sayson added Benitez believes he can help enhance and improve the agriculture sector here

Sayson also said Benitez is asking for their cooperation when the program startes, adding that the long term plan of this program is to help mobilize the farmers to practice organic farming.

The city dad also said negotiations are underway for a possible site for the construction of the food ferminal or “Bagsakan” near the South or Burgos Public Market.

The Benitez plan aims to bring vegetables prices down in the markets and to ensure and enhance the income of both farmers and retailers.
