Troopers, rebels clash anew in Guihulngan, fourth so far in a week

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Government soldiers clashed anew with Communist rebels in the hinterlands of the city of Guihulngan I Negros Oriental, the fourth so far this week.

A press release from the Philippine Army revealed that the latest clash happened last Wednesday 17 August 2022 in the subvillage of Cantayson, Mani-ak village, involving troopers of the 62nd Infantry Battalion.

The first in the series of encounters against the rebels happened in Tuesday, in the subvillage of Cambairan, Trinidad village where fleeing rebels left a trail of blood.

Pursuing troopers tracked the rebels, who had hied off to nearby Mani-ak, resulting to the latest clash.

Brigade Gen. Inocencio I Pasaporte, Brigade Commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade lauded the efforts of the 62nd Infantry Battalion led by Lt.Colonel William Pesase, saying the soldiers had “(freed) the people of” of the hinterland sitios from the rebels.

The 303rd IB also called on rebels to surrender either to the military or their local government units.
