In full: Silay City Nabs Most Wins at Gov. Cup Provincial Boxing Tourney

The ABANSE NEGRENSE Governor’s Cup Provincial Boxing Tournament continued its elimination bouts and its first semi-final matches in the Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto on Nov. 12-13, 2022 (Saturday and Sunday). Silay City emerged as the LGU with the most wins during the 2-day tournament.

The city of Silay had amassed a total of four (4) wins with no record of loss. The Silay City boxers defeated opponents from the municipality of La Castellana, Bago City, and two Victorias City challengers.

Justin Jamero, Matthew Ayumania, John Mikhael Arellano, and Michael John Luzanez won in 26 kilograms, 30 kilograms, 32 kilograms, and in the 34 kilograms weight divisions, respectively.

Also, La Carlota City had no recorded loss but only documented a single victory. Don Salvador Benedicto, the tournament’s host venue, had recorded four (4) victories and three (3) defeats.

The municipality of Murcia recorded four (4) wins and four (4) losses. And the city of Victorias documented three (3) wins and two (2) defeats. Don Salvador Benedicto Vice Mayor Nehemiah Joe J. Dela Cruz and municipal sports coordinator Wilson Real were reportedly present during the 2-day tournament.

Boxing is one of the priority sports that the Negros Occidental Provincial Government and the Provincial Sports Office are continuously promoting. That is why Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson is keen on initiating and establishing grassroots sports development programs to help the Negrense youth improve their skills and abilities and guide them in their pursuit of success through sports.

The Governor’s Cup Provincial Boxing Tournament will proceed to its second semi-final and final bouts on Dec. 3-4 in the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto.
