65 fresh cases for Bacolod; results to be re-evaluated

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bacolod City has 65 fresh confirmed cases today, which are up for re-evaluation.

Councilor Israel Salanga told DNX that the 65 new cases are the combined results of five batches of Overseas Filipino Workers who were repatriated.

Salanga revealed a “new process” in the release of the results. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has hired a third party to process the results of the OFWs’ swab tests.

“Before, these swabs are taken to [Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital], or the Teresita Jalandoni [Provincial Hospital] for processing,” Salanga said. The volume of results to be processed had caused a backlog, causing delays in the release of the results and in turn in the homecoming of OFWs.

With the third party hired to process the OFWs’ results, this makes for a shorter turnaround time, so that those who tested negative can be immediately sent home. This saves not just time but resources as well, as the quarantine facility can then be used by others.

Still, Salanga said he was “surprised” by the 65 positive results, as he finds the record-high number “unusual”.

“I’m not questioning the validity of the results,” he clarified, “but as it turned out, the number is from the combined test results of five batches of OFWs who were repatriated in the last two weeks.”

Earlier, Inter-Agency Task Force spokesperson physician Grace Tan revealed that the results are still “up for reevaluation”.
