Leonardia said the budget of P9.545 million for the Rizal Park was allocated by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) using the Local Government Support Fund – Assistance to Cities (LGSF – AC).

The mayor explained that one of the main features of the city’s economic recovery program is government spending because of the consequential job creation. Work on this rehabilitation project would translate to income of workers, and sales of local hardwares and stores.

The mayor further explained that the budget can only be utilized for this specific project and cannot be reallocated to other projects because the very purpose of this particular DBM fund is to develop and improve parks and open spaces nationwide.

“To whoever much is given, much is expected. So I hope we will continue to preserve this, and also make sure that this will become an attraction in Bacolod,” Leonardia said of the park.

The mayor has requested Dennis Estaniel, principal of Rizal Elementary School, to supervise the daily upkeep of the Rizal Park.

Leonardia added that the rehabilitation and improvement of the Rizal Park will contribute to the “immortalization” of the national hero.*/CITY PIO
