Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced the rehabilitation and improvement of the Bacolod City Rizal Park, during his speech at the celebration of the 159th birthday of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the Rizal Park 12 June, today, a press release from City Hall said.
Leonardia led the unveiling of the architectural perspective of the rehab and improvement of the Rizal Park, at the end of the program.
The mayor was joined by Councilors Archie Baribar and Bartolome Orola, DepEd Bacolod OIC-schools division superintendent Gladys Amylaine Sales, Rizal Elementary School principal Dennis Estaniel, and other principals and school heads.
Leonardia said the budget of P9.545 million for the Rizal Park was allocated by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) using the Local Government Support Fund – Assistance to Cities (LGSF – AC).
The mayor explained that one of the main features of the city’s economic recovery program is government spending because of the consequential job creation. Work on this rehabilitation project would translate to income of workers, and sales of local hardwares and stores.
The mayor further explained that the budget can only be utilized for this specific project and cannot be reallocated to other projects because the very purpose of this particular DBM fund is to develop and improve parks and open spaces nationwide.
“To whoever much is given, much is expected. So I hope we will continue to preserve this, and also make sure that this will become an attraction in Bacolod,” Leonardia said of the park.
The mayor has requested Dennis Estaniel, principal of Rizal Elementary School, to supervise the daily upkeep of the Rizal Park.
Leonardia added that the rehabilitation and improvement of the Rizal Park will contribute to the “immortalization” of the national hero.*/CITY PIO
