Machine malfunction, high heat, missing names hound first few hours of polls

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bacolod City acting registrar lawyer Revo Sorbito said there is no cause for for concern as all possible problems they could encounter during vote counting has been covered through contingency plans.

Sorbito is reacting to concerns like vote counting machine malfunction which could possibly delay the process.

Certain factors could affect the performance of the VCMs including the extremely high heat.

He however said that the voters could leave their ballots behind and sign waivers for them to come back after the malfunction has been fixed.

Voting will still continue even with machine malfunction while replacement of VCM would have to be the last resort.

Meanwhile, voters from various Center here are complaining of missing names, and misplaced precincts.

One, Jose Tiapon, told DNX he was unable to find his name in the voter’s list.

He was not the only one as dozens of voters in various centers complained of the same thing.

However, Comelec election officer Sandra Gonzales said this could be because some of them were not able to vote for two consecutive elections.

This includes the barangay polls. Missing out on two consecutive polls would mean removal of name from the list.
