It all started with a sack half full of sand that was given to me by my uncle to try boxing as an exercise for me to start a healthy lifestyle and to build strength, which helped me to lose weight from 210 pounds to 132 pounds.
After five months, my sister and my cousin encouraged me to join a dua-thlon event which started my journey in running and it is when I found love for the sport..
Motivation and Inspiration can come in any forms— a word from a person, advertisements, quotes from athletes. By themselves, they are just a expression from one’s observation. What you do with those expressions that motivates and inspires you is what matters.
My motivation and inspiration came in the way of knowing my family’s health history. It amplified me to be more dedicated in having a healthy lifestyle, considering that having a healthy and disciplined lifestyle can genuinely prevent me from such health issues. “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure” as some would say.
Consistency plays a more vital role than motivation in trying to be better in your passion and in life. Motivation may come today, but not again tomorrow.
I became consistent by challenging myself and setting a goal of 25 kilometer-distance run every week. It is always not easy to wake up at 4:30 in the morning every Monday to run 10 kilometers, Wednesday another 10 kilometers, and Friday for five kilometers for the goal to be completed.
But, at least I am not guilty when the last day of the week comes. It requires me a lot of consistency and discipline every day.
July 13, 2021. The day that I and my cousin are planning to go for a 10K run. As we were planning, the 10K run turned into a 21K run from Bacolod City to our beloved hometown Municipality of Pulupandan. I never hesitated to say “Lakat ta!” or “Let’s go!” with our plan, because I know that my consistency and discipline have formulated me enough to finish that distance.
Life is like running a 21 kilometer half-marathon, where every kilometer is like the day in our lives that we never know what’s ahead of us. There will be a kilometer where you would feel comfortable, there will also be a kilometer that you’ll feel like giving up. But, when you keep on striding your feet with discipline and enjoying what you do, it is assured that you will reach your point of disembarkation. It is when discipline is engaged to the heart and mind that enables you to reach your aspirations.
“Only the disciplined ones are free in life. If you are undisciplined, you are a slave to your passion.” – Eliud Kipchoge.
