BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The sitting mayor here, Evelio Leonardia, paid his respects to slain anti-drug cop Joseph Nepumuceno who was slain on the job this week.

As Leonardia paid his last respects, the flag at the main police headquarters was flown at half-mast to pay tribute to Nepumuceno, the local police chief here, Manuel Placido, said.

National police chief Guillermo Eleazar had already ordered a thorough probe of the slay while the Regional Police Office had already formed Task Force Nepumuceno to lead the investigation.

Leonardia said he had personally talked to Eleazar by phone

“I asked him to give special attention and go deeper in their investigation and help Bacolod in its campaign against drug trade, the mayor was quoted by the Bacolod City PIO to have said in a news release.

“SSgt. Nepomuceno’s dedication and commitment to serve the people of Bacolod are worth emulating,” he added.

The release also said “Leonardia visited the wake of Nepomuceno, 37, in Barangay 14, to personally condole to his wife, Janet, with whom he had a three-year-old child.”

“This is a very sad incident. I came here to express my heartfelt condolences to his family. It is sad for Bacolod because we lost a valuable asset in our fight against illegal drugs,” Leonardia said.
