BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – City Councilor Celia Flor said the localized version of the Bawal Bastos Law said men will also be protected by the measure, contrary to views it will not be inclusive of men.
Flor who chairs the committee on women, gender, family and child care, in the city council, has authored a resolution localizing Republic Act 11313 or the Bawal Bastos Law.
This ordinance covers all forms of gender-based sexual harassment committed in public spaces and even online.
One of which are catcalling, slurs, taunting and other actions that can cause discomfort to women in public places.
Flor clarified however, that this does not only cover the protection and rights of women and the children but also those of men .
Flor also believed that through an ordinance, incidents of victim blaming will be avoided.
Offenders may face one to six months of imprisonment and pay up to P5,000 fine above it.
Gendersensitivity training will also be conducted by the Philippine National Police and the LGU for the violators.
