BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bacolod City has registered the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far in a week, with 129 cases in one day yesterday, September 9.
This is according to data from the Department of Health Western Visayas. Of the cases, 125 are local cases, three are authorized persons outside of residence, and one is a locally-stranded individual
Because of the current rise in the number of cases, the city government has directed the Bacolod City Police Office to assist in tightening the implementation of minimum health protocols, monitor compliance of the curfew hours including the operations of business establishments as well as compliance to the liquor ban.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has called on residents to cooperate as the city sees its first ever three-digit COVID-19 case yesterday.
The mayor said that this should serve as a reminder to all of us, that the city should not let its guard down and be complacent just because there was a decrease in the number of infections for close to two months.
The mayor added that amidst the surging number of cases nationwide, the city has continued to step up its vaccination drive, leading to a decrease in the cases overall in the city.
He also assured that the city will continue to step up its drive to adopt more interventions where they are applicable, and to get more residents inoculated.
“Your cooperation, understanding, and continued patience are highly appreciated in these most trying times, especially that we are still under GCQ with heightened restrictions status,” Leonardia added.
