BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Baciwa Board of Directors Secretary Mona Dia Jardin on Tuesday 5 January denied the claim that the 60 employees were terminated without due process.
Jardin, in a press conference, said the employees knew that the board would undergo reorganization following the takeover of the PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp, a private entity.
She added necessary notices were given to the employees and that only 60 out of 500 employees rejected their offers in saving their employment.
Baciwa retained only 23 out of their 500 employees.
The Baciwa employees were given two options: to apply for employment for PrimeWater as a private entity and the other was to accept the early retirement incentive plan.
On 29 December, Baciwa terminated 60 of its employees for “redundancy”.
Baciwa Employees Union, however, said “the ‘redundancy’ has no basis in fact and in law and relies on the opinion of an agency”.
PrimeWater took over the operations of Baciwa on 16 November 2020.
