Every year on October 1st, coffee enthusiasts around the world come together to celebrate International Coffee Day, recognizing the beloved beverage that has become a global symbol of energy, comfort, and social connection. This year, Citadines Bacolod City celebrates International Coffee Day for the first time, and we honor the rich history, diverse flavors, and profound impact of coffee on cultures and economies worldwide, that is why we aptly named this festive event the Coffee Community 2024 and we partnered with different groups who share the same passion for coffee. We do not stop with just a day of celebration; we shall celebrate coffee and the community it has built for two whole weeks!
Coffee Sparks Art, Art Sparks Generosity
What is a community without a cup of coffee fueling imaginations? It is not just a beverage, for some, it is a means to create masterpieces. During the Coffee Community 2024, we partnered with award-winning artists Dennis Valenciano and Julia “Amai” Lopue who mastered the art in coffee painting, together, they will showcase some of their precious works and these art pieces shall be displayed at the Buglas Foyer at the second floor of Citadines Bacolod City. Their masterful creations are available for sale and thirty percent of the proceeds shall go to the NVC Foundation who headed the “Artisans of Hope” in creating Citadines Bacolod City’s Buglas Mosaic. Talk about artists giving back to artists!
Along with Valenciano and Lopue is Cyanotype print artist, Angela Silva who has successfully printed her art pieces using Barako Coffee – a first to be seen in an art gallery! She will have her prints displayed for the public to see them during the Coffee Art Gallery beginning October 1-15, 2024.
Partnerships Built Over Coffee
Just a week before the Coffee Community celebration, Citadines Bacolod City (CBC) General Manager, Caleb Han along with the Department Leaders of the service residence took part in an immersion at the Sugar Valley Coffee Farm in Murcia town. The manager of the farm, Mr. Teddy Canete, further enhanced their knowledge about coffee production in the locality and the importance of supporting the Slow Food Movement. Citadines Bacolod City is also one with this cause in promoting a sustainable and fair method of producing food such as our beloved coffee fruits.
This partnership is taken a step further as our friends from the Negros Occidental Coffee Council (NOCC) who also supports the Slow Food Movement, were given a Coffee Community Pop-up Shop at the lobby of CBC where they could sell their produce and other coffee products.
On October 5, the NOCC will spearhead the Coffee Talks – an interactive seminar featuring coffee producers and homegrown café owners and a Free Public Cupping featuring our local robusta beans. Meanwhile, on October 11, an exciting match between Negros Island’s best Barista’s will battle it out as we crown the first CBC Coffee Champion! All these exciting events will be a part of our International Coffee Week celebration!
The KapeSalubong and the Kape Saba
Since the love for coffee is strong in CBC, our Citazens are very invested in making more ways for our guests to enjoy coffee and our local delicacies. Bacolod is known to have a wide array of pasalubongs and why not infuse them with the best coffee flavors? We introduce KapeSalubong, a bundle of coffee infused treats mixed with the local coffee beans found within the island. Get your own dose of our Robusta Piaya, Liberica Napoleones, Barako Biscocho, and the Cappuccino cookies! Take home something bitter-sweetly satisfying to your loved ones!
During Coffee Community 2024, CBC launches its original concoction called Kape Saba – a blend of the richness of coffee with the tropical hints of Saba Banana – truly a unique experience for your palate. This one-of-a-kind drink is even topped with a swirl of whipped crème cheese and crowned with a piece of caramelized sugar which reminds us of our Pinoy Saba snacks, the Turon and Banana-Q.
International Coffee Day offers a moment to reflect on the art and science of coffee production, the passion of those who cultivate and roast beans, and the joy that a simple cup of coffee can bring. Join us as we delve into the origins of this cherished celebration, explore the significance of coffee in our daily lives, and raise a toast to the wonderful world of coffee on this momentous day.
Happy International Coffee Day!
