BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – An addition of 20 units of convalescent plasma was donated to the city from the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-Region 7).

The convalescent plasma, which was taken from the blood of those who recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), will be transfused to moderately to severely-ill Covid-19 patients.

The plasma supply was forwarded to Bacolod Adventist Medical Center and Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital (Riverside Medical Center).

Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Deputy for Medical Dr. Chris Sorongon said the families of the patients should coordinate with the said hospitals to avail the use of the convalescent plasma.

Last week, the DOH Region 7 also gave some 20 units of convalescent plasma supply as part of their assistance to the city’s fight against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Sorongon said that the office of the Civil Defense, DOH Region 6, representatives from the provinces of Aklan and Capiz, are here in Bacolod to benchmark the city’s EOC.

“EOC is one of the best things that has happened to Bacolod City, even our neighboring cities and municipalities are benchmarking from this experience.”

Sorongon added that 43 representatives and visitors from the fifth district of the Province of Negros Occidental will come to Bacolod tomorrow to exchange ideas on the best practices in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I encourage everyone who does not believe in the effectiveness of EOC to come here in the government center so that you will understand the importance of EOC and the activities we do to flatten the curve,” said Sorongon.

Last month, the city formed the EOC Task Force to synchronize and harmonize data gathering and other activities aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19.
