The Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF) has inked a three-way partnership with Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas (TUPV), and Cauayan Local Government Unit (Cauayan LGU), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 at Caliling National High School, a press release from NWTF said.

The partnership was done in an effort to create opportunities and avenues for further learning, and provided students of Caliling National High School network connectivity for online and modular learning and 3D printing laboratory that will soon rise in their school grounds.

This was weeks after NWTF and TUPV officially cemented its partnership through a MOA signing activity last 14 December, 2020.

Partnership with TUPV

“NWTF’s mission is building vibrant dungganon (honorable) communities and I have always believed that it is best achieved by partnering with right-minded organizations and individuals, TUPV is one of such organizations and that allows us to share the Dungganon values of caring for people and the community,” said NWTF Executive Director Suzzette Gaston, as she expressed her enthusiasm and excitement for the partnership.

NWTF looks forward to more programs and activities with TUPV that will benefit more and more people, here in Negros and beyond.

After the huge success of TUPV – NWTF Tapna Covid Initiative, an initiative that was then created to provide 3D printed face shields as support and protection for our frontliners at the height of the pandemic comes this new project in collaboration with TUPV and Cauayan LGU to provide network connectivity to Caliling National High School and set-up a 3D printing laboratory to support the school’s STEM Program for its Senior High students.

Network Connectivity for Caliling National High School

“The partnership aims to ensure connectivity for online or networked education among students of Caliling National High School in Cauayan,” said NWTF Assistant Director for Admin and Strategic Projects Raymond Serios.

Serios added that the network equipment NWTF provided allows the school to reach the majority of its students, thereby helping them download their modules and interact with their teachers online.

“There was no internet connection in the area, and no facilities or laboratory for the STEM Program,” said Eric Malo-oy, TUPV Campus Director as he briefly discussed why they chose to Caliling National High School as a hub for STEM and eventually for this project with NWTF.

TUP-V saw this opportunity to provide support, and the support they have extended was able to create a positive impact for a lot of people in the community.

Loribel Montano, Teacher-in-charge for Caliling National High School extends her appreciation to NWTF and TUPV for all the support. “In today’s situation what we are using are downloaded modules and with the help of these devices we are able to reach our students and increase their performance,” Montano added.

“This project is really a big help to our students especially in these times of the pandemic, before we have to look for places that have a better signal, now our students are able to conveniently access modules using their gadgets without the use of mobile load or data,” shared Jose Romel Sambrona, Caliling National High School Teacher.

Hon. Jocel Popioco, Barangay Captain of Barangay Caliling also expressed his gratitude to NWTF and TUPV for this project, “We are very thankful for this project because it is able to help our students and teachers and not just them but also us, the residents of Brgy. Caliling.”

STEM Program and 3D Printing Laboratory

Believing in the importance of continuous learning, Cauayan LGU pledged to donate 3D printers to Caliling National High School. Meanwhile, TUPV will provide the necessary training and capacity building to enhance the competencies of the teachers and the students in relation to this new technology and the school’s STEM program.  NWTF will provide support for Caliling National High School by upgrading the facilities of one classroom that will serve as the 3D Printing Laboratory.

“We’re bringing in 3D printers here in Cauayan to help upgrade their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education because we want that every senior high STEM graduate has the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” said Serios.

Both of these projects are born out of the desire of each institution to effect change in the lives of people and the community, in this case the Cauayanons.
